OUTREACH
Thank you all so much for all the canned goods, turkeys, and monetary gifts that were donated for our Thanksgiving boxes. And to the Rotary Club, who also collected turkeys for us. We were able to help 15 families (48 people), and have food left over which we will distribute at Christmas.
The Angel Tree is about to go up in our narthex. Please pick an Angel and buy a gift for the child listed on it (no wrapping please).
This “Thank you” was sent to us last year from the director of Safe Haven of Pike County:
”I thank you for the compassion and love that is poured into making a child feel important and valued during the holiday season. It’s times like these when a gift, a simple gift, for someone to know that there is spirit, that there are people in this world that care about them, even if they never met them. I thank each any every one of you for being a part of the Angel Tree program and every other project that you do to help the needy in our community.”
For our Christmas food baskets we will need turkeys or hams, fresh or canned fruits & vegetables, desserts, etc. Whatever your family’s traditional dinner is, please consider providing those foods for a less fortunate family in our area. You’ve all been very generous in the past & I’m sure this year’s Christmas will be just as successful. Sharing our bounty and caring for others is the best gift of all.
Bless you all - Gretel Metzger

FOOD PANTRY
The Ecumenical Food Pantry provides food to those who are experiencing
difficult times. Clients are referred by area churches and social service agencies in the tri-state area (i.e., Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey). It is open every Friday from 6:30-7:30 pm and teams from area churches take turns serving families in need of food.
For the next few weeks, we will be having our annual Lunch Box collection. Please bring in items that could be included in children’s school lunches. There is a shelf in the Narthex of food suggestions for donating to families who will be filling lunch boxes soon and need help feeding their kids.
So what is OUTREACH anyway?
The purpose of our Outreach program is to assist people who are in need of emergency funds to get them through a temporary situation. So far this year we have assisted approximately 30 families with money for gas, utility bills, housing, and food pantry vouchers.
We also provide food baskets at Thanksgiving for 25-35 families. And at Christmas we again provide food baskets as well as gifts for about 80-100 children.
The Outreach program is supported by our church through communion offerings; usually twice a year. Occasionally we may also make special appeals for funds. Keeping in mind the current fiscal crisis, I predict that more families than ever will need our help this year.
This program was begun in 1985 under the guidance of Tracy Rocklin. It is my fervent prayer that you will continue your generous support.
