The Christmas season is one of my favorite times of the year. It was always the time to get together with family and friends for friendship, fellowship and to celebrate God’s most precious gift to our world, his son Jesus Christ.
I look forward each year to setting up our tree, stringing all the lights on it, hanging the ornaments and then trying to get it just right so it would stand without failing over or leaning too much to one side or the other. The last and best part of the Christmas tree ritual was placing the star on the top of the tree. I remember as a small child asking my dad, “Why do we put a star on the top”? Dad looked at me in only the way a father can look at their son and patiently explained to me that we put the star on the top of the tree because it represents two things, the “light” of Christ’s love for the world but also the blazing and never ending “light” of salvation.
In this advent season, as you look at the stars and angels on the top of the beautifully lit Christmas tree, pause and meditate on the message of God’s love and promise of salvation the Prophet Isaiah tells us about in these verses;
For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch. 2) The nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory, you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will bestow. 3) You will be a crown of splendor in the Lord’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
Enjoy the light of God’s love and salvation in the Advent Season.
